Novel:: Change Section:: Four by ~Diratoni:iconDiratoni:

I stood up, shivering and wet, and started an uphill trek through the snow toward the railroad tracks. My feet were numb, so I looked through my bag for the pair of boots that I had. I pulled them on, and almost instantly felt my feet warm up.
I trudged along for the good part of an hour before I could see the train tracks. I ran toward them, shivering, trying to warm up my arms by rubbing them. They hem of my dress was mostly ice by now. I looked at where we went over the tracks, and saw the lines from the wheels in the snow and marks on the tracks where it broke free from them. I looked back at the lake again, seeing a faint line of ice and the hole that the train had made. I sighed, trying to tell myself that Jake wasn’t coming back. I continued trudging alongside the railroad tracks, heading in the direction the train was supposed to take me in. The cold had long since set in my bones, but I did not want to use the few changes of clothes I had with me; I would rather save them for a time when I would really need them.  I shivered, and looked up at the sky, the crescent moon the only thing guiding me on my way. I sighed, my breath hanging like a miniature cloud in front of me. More tears fell down the traced paths on my face, and I continued on, hoping I would be able to find my way, or at least, another train would find me.
My blonde hair was keeping most of my face warm, but the curls had fallen out when the snow melted in my hair, leaving my hair scraggly and messy. I sighed and brushed as much of the snow out of my hair as I possibly could. I had long since put gloves on; my hands would have frozen if I had not. To anyone else in the forest, I probably looked like an oddly dressed ghost, my pale skin matching the snow; my red lips were probably the color of blood, and my black dress probably would not help me much. I smiled at the thought of someone being afraid of me, and kept marching alongside the railroad tracks.
For some time now, I had been looking for a drier place to stay the night, or at least, what was left of the night. There was little other than trees, and I searched for a fallen log, or something that I could create a little place for me to stay. I saw a tree that had been snapped by some force, be it the wind or the lighting, and it formed a large enough area for me to sleep in if I curled up. I stepped over the tracks, and shuffled over to the haven I was going to sleep in. I put my bag down, and laid my head upon it, curling up into a ball and wrapping my left arm around my legs. Somewhere, a wolf howled, and a shiver went down my spine. My right arm was cold, it was against the snow, so I made a bit more of a wall around me with the snow, so I would have more room, and so I would feel safer-- even if I really wasn’t. The warmth that my body created made me much warmer than I had been, and I dozed off quickly, hoping I would not sleep too long.
